Hike Description
From the parking area, you will take two short switchbacks through the forest in order to get over the southern shoulder of the mountain. The rest of the hike will be in the northerly direction and is almost entirely on open slopes giving a ringside view into the Mount Jefferson Wilderness to the east. The ascent is gradual making this a great family hike.
About halfway up this 1.9 mile route is a flat campable meadow area with standing dead snags and emerging young trees. After leaving the flat area, the trail enters another forest and you will come to a signed junction. Go left here to reach the top of Bachelor Mountain in a half mile. (Going straight at this junction leads to the Bruno Meadows Trailhead and may be an alternate return route for a shuttle trip).
The summit is the site of a former lookout tower, but all that remains is the concrete footing of the tower and some broken glass. From here you will get views from Mount Rainier to the Three Sisters, with a big close-up of Mount Jefferson. After enjoying the views, return the way you came.
