Description
Indian Mountain is a prominence on Waucoma Ridge, which separates the Eagle Creek and Hood River drainages. Beginning in 1916, the peak was the site of a lookout. The original lookout was replaced in 1933, and the latter was decommissioned, along with scores of others, in the grand lookout demolition of the mid-1960s. There are a few remnants of the old lookout foundation and a summit register to sign.
The summit, while not quite offering views in all directions, takes in a good expanse of the Cascades. There's a splendid view of Mount Hood and south all the way to Mount Jefferson. The south side of the peak is rather precipitous, and Mount Adams and Mount Defiance can be seen past the trees to the east.
