Before you begin, be sure to check out the Guidelines.

Create a blank hike page with a template

1. Start by going to the Hike Template page. Select and copy the template. You may want to bookmark this page for future use.
2. Now go to the hike page you want by entering the name into the search bar above. Hike pages need to end in the word Hike. If this is a new page, the page will not be found, so you will need to click the "create this page" link.
3. Paste the template code into the content box to get a framework for the page.
4. Fill out the template as much as you can. If you don't have all the information, that is fine because others can fill it out later.
5. Add your page categories by including tags like these at the top of the content box:
   • [[Category:Southwest Washington]] - add this code if your hike is in Southwest Washington
   • [[Category:Mount Hood]] - add this code if your hike is on or near Mount Hood
   • [[Category:Easy Hikes]] - add this code if your hike is of easy difficulty.

Create associated Trailhead and Destination Pages

1. You will also probably want to create an associated trailhead page using the Trailhead Template and ending with Trailhead in the name. The trailhead page will contain information on how to get to the start of your hike. If there are other hikes leaving off from your destination, there may already be a trailhead page, so be sure to check first. You need to make sure to link to this page from the hike page.
2. Create a destination page using the Destination Template for any destinations along the way. This could include Lakes, Summits, Waterfalls or other points of interest on the route. You will probably want to link to the destinations from your hike page somewhere in the description.
3. Don't forget to add area categories to all three pages you create, as well as special category tags.

Editing Tips

• If you want to link to another wiki page, you can do it like this, by surrounding the name of the page in double brackets: [[Sample Trailhead]]
• If you want to link to an external page, surround the link and description in single brackets: [http://www.portlandhikers.com/ Portland Hiker's Main Page]
• Create a list of items by using an * at the beginning of each item in the list.
• New headers are created by surrounding the header in double =, like this: == Sample Header ==
