Driving Directions

Coming from Portland, take I-84 east to Cascade Locks and take the toll bridge (Bridge of the Gods) across to Washington. Take a left (west) on state Highway 14. About three miles west of the bridge, (past the Bonneville Trailhead), you will come to Hot Springs Road. Turn right, go under the railroad grade and take an immediate right onto Cascade Drive. Follow Cascade Drive as it sweeps around the the far end of Greenleaf Slough. The road appears to end at a turn-around 1.8 miles later. Continue another tenth of a mile on what is now "Shelly Lane", cross the small bridge over Carpenter Creek and turn right on the first powerline access road. Drive up the powerline access road for about 150 yards to the first real fork in the road. Park any where you can here, but be sure to leave the road passable to others.

Notes

Aldrich Butte Trailhead is a bit of a misnomer. There is no official trailhead (although the Forest Service had planned to build one).

The "Aldrich Butte Trail" was built as Aldrich Butte Road in 1942 to give provide military access to a lookout and possible gun site on Aldrich Butte. The trail starts from the parking area on the left fork of the road. It quickly turns back to the east and enters the forest. The more improved right fork of the road is used by BPA powerline crews.

Portland Hikers Field Guide is built as a collaborative effort by its user community. While we make every effort to fact-check, information found here should be considered anecdotal. You should cross-check against other references before planning a hike. Trail routing and conditions are subject to change. Please contact us if you notice errors on this page.
