Description
Battery 245 was constructed during World War II as part of a "triangle" of defense for the mouth of the Columbia River. It was serviced by two six-inch Naval guns that were removed when the battery was decommissioned in 1947. The two five-inch guns now in place are similar to the originals and were installed in 1979. The rooms below Battery 245 are lit and many individual rooms are labeled as to function.
Battery 245 was aligned to act to cohort with two emplacements across the river, Battery 246 at Fort Columbia and Battery 247 at Fort Canby (Cape Disappointment). The latter two guns were never fired.
