Description
Battery Clark was named after Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It became functional in 1899, at the time of the Spanish American War. It was originally armed with eight 12-inch mortars, but four of the mortars were soon removed to Fort Canby at Cape Disappointment. The Battery Clark structures are easily visited although there are no longer any mortars in place.
