Fees and Regulations

  • NOTE: The trailhead parking area and the trail to the Big Creek Falls Viewpoint are closed off. Big trees are down and the viewing platform has been damaged by a fallen tree.
  • Hike at your own risk: hazardous and downed trees; avoid during windy periods
  • $3 toll each way at the Bridge of the Gods

Driving Directions

Drive I-84 east to Exit 44 for Cascade Locks and Stevenson.

After exiting the freeway, go 0.4 miles, and then turn right for the Bridge of the Gods Toll Bridge and Stevenson.

Drive 0.7 miles, crossing the Columbia River and paying the $3 toll, to turn right onto Highway 14E for Stevenson and Kennewick.

Stay on Highway 14 for 5.9 miles before making a left turn at a roundabout for Carson and the Wind River Recreation Area.

Drive through Carson and continue for 14.6 miles to the junction with Mineral Springs Road.

Here the Wind River Highway makes a sharp right for the Upper Wind River and Mt. St. Helens. From this corner, keep to the paved road, winding up past Oldman Pass for another 13.2 miles.

Make a left turn onto the Curly Creek Road for Mt. St. Helens and the Lewis River.

Descend 5.1 miles on the Curly Creek Road to the junction with FR 90, the Lewis River Road.

Turn right here for the Upper Lewis River, and drive 4.7 miles before pulling off to the left alongside the boulders that block off the old parking area.
