Driving Directions

Drive north on I-5 and take Exit 21 for Highway 503E, Woodland, and Cougar.

After exiting, turn right on Highway 503E in Woodland, and proceed 0.8 miles to a roundabout.

Bear right here on the Lower Lewis River Road for Cougar, and drive 27.0 miles on Highway 503 (After 22.5 miles, 503 turns south to Amboy and Battle Ground; continue straight on 503 Spur for Cougar and Mt. St. Helens).

Turn left on paved FR 8100 for the Kalama Recreation Area. After 8.6 miles of winding up and passing Merrill Lake, FR 8100 makes a sharp bend to the right.

From here, drive 2.4 miles to a junction and keep straight on a gravel road.

In 0.6 miles, FR 8100 makes a sharp turn to the right.

Keep straight here on FR 8123 for the Blue Lake Trailhead. It’s 1.5 miles up FR 8123 to the current Blue Lake Trailhead (the first one was covered in rubble in 2006; the second in 2014). Parking is by the side of the road.
