Driving Directions
Drive Highway 26 east through Sandy.
From the final traffic light in Sandy, just past the ARCO Station, drive 17.5 miles to Zigzag, and then make a left turn onto East Lolo Pass Road, which becomes FR 18.
Drive 4.3 miles and turn right onto FR 1825, marked for “Campgrounds, Trailheads.”
After 0.7 miles, bear right at a junction and cross a bridge over the Sandy River.
Drive 0.4 miles, and turn right onto 380 spur for Riley Horse Camp and Cast Creek Trailhead. In 0.1 miles, turn right into Riley Horse Camp and take the second left for the one-way loop. The Cast Creek Trailhead is at the end of the loop near an interpretive sign.
Alternate trailhead:
If you're doing the Cast Creek Hike, alternately continue on the gravel road just past the campground to a wide place to park. Then continue walking on this road about 1/4 mile until you hit the Cast Creek Trail. This might be less secure since there aren't campground people watching your car.
Fees and Regulations
- Northwest Forest Pass (or America the Beautiful Pass) required
