Description
The crossing of the Coe Branch is one of the difficult stream crossings on the Timberline Trail. The trail drops about 700' from Cloud Cap and 300' from Elk Cove.
You can either wade the creek or hop boulders/logs. The stream doesn't look that big, but when you are wading in mid stream it will knock you over if you're not careful. And if you hop rocks/logs it's easy to slip and hurt yourself or fall in the creek. Use trekking poles for better balance. As usual when crossing major streams, make sure and undo your waste belt and loosen your shoulder straps so that if you do fall in the stream, you can easily get your pack off which could otherwise drag you under.
