Cornpatch Meadows

Description

Cornpatch Meadows lie on the Lodgepole Trail, a section of the former Skyline Trail, between Triangle Lake and Lower Lake in the Olallie Lake Scenic Area. This open expanse supports a variety of wet meadow flora, including cow parsnip, green false hellebore, marsh hollyhock, mountain meadow knotweed, lupine and cinquefoil. Cornpatch Meadows are fed by a spring that is one of the sources of the Clackamas River.

The trail crosses the south meadow. The larger north meadow, which requires an easy bushwhack, is a shallow wetland for much of the summer. The meadows are so named because of the dominance of the large-leaved green false hellebore, also known as corn lily (Veratrum viride).
