Description
The area of the viewpoint is distinguished by a lone, upright ponderosa pine and a couple of pine skeletons. The spot is marked 'McMahon' on topographical maps. Just north of the viewpoint is the junction of the Coyote Wall Trail with the Crybaby Trail (going left).
If you're a bicyclist, this is where it all begins. You'll often see bikers here, looking down the long downhill with a mix of excitement and trepidation.
Hikers, on the other hand, have nothing to fear. If you're coming up the Coyote Wall Trail, this marks the end of the serious climbing. It's a great place to sit down and have lunch under a pine, watching the birds soar on the thermals and the clouds dancing around Mount Hood.
