Description
The Eagle Creek Viaduct stands on the east side of Tooth Rock, high above Eagle Creek. This viaduct is quite different from the nearby Tooth Rock Viaduct. The Eagle Creek Viaduct is actually a "half-viaduct". Half of the road rests on a ledge blasted from the mountain and half rests on the viaduct pilings. The railings here were an unbroken continuation of the roadside guardrails, so from the road the viaduct isn't as noticeable as others on the highway.
A portion of the viaduct was seriously damaged by a rockfall in the 1980s and much of the guardrail had collapsed from neglect. The entire structure was rebuilt as part of the 1996 restoration.
