East Peak

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Mt. Melissa from the east slope of East Peak (bobcat)

Description

East Peak is the unofficial name of this peak on the high ridge between Mount Howard and Aneroid Mountain. It can be reached most easily from the former via a two-mile use trail. Hidden Peak is also accessible via cross-country scrambles from the East Fork Wallowa Valley or from the McCully Basin. Hidden Peak, the other prominence in the middle of this ridge, is three-quarters of a mile to the south across Lone Rock Pass. Cross-country skiers enjoy skiing this high ridge in the winter.

In 2016, Mount Howard and East Peak were designated national natural landmarks because of their pristine natural condition and endemic vegetation.
