Description

One of several peaks along the Zigzag ridge which connects to Mount Hood on the latter's southwest side. You get great views all around - Mount Hood, Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rainier, Portland, and the Coast Range to name a few. There's a spot you could camp to the west of the peak where there used to be a fire lookout.

There are three hikes to East Zigzag Mountain: East Zigzag Mountain Hike is 8 miles round trip and 2000' elevation gain. East Zigzag from Devil Canyon Hike is the same distance, 330' less elevation gain, but the approach road at the trailhead is more difficult and the last mile may be impassable. Cast Lake Hike is 12.4 miles round trip and 3890' total elevation gain (coming and going), but the approach road at the trailhead is better. You could also get to East Zigzag from extensions of the West Zigzag Mountain Hike and the Horseshoe Ridge Hike.
