Description
Gunsight Butte tops the ridge one and a half miles south from Gumjuwac Saddle above the Badger Lake basin. There are partial views from the top of the butte itself, but better views, both west to Mount Hood and also to the Washington and central Oregon Cascades, can be had farther along the ridge. Piles of platy andesite are a feature of this ridge.
The Gunsight Butte Trail #685 had been abandoned for many years before it was restored by the Youth Conservation Corps in the 1970s. As it lies just outside the Badger Creek Wilderness boundary for its entire length, it has become popular with mountain bikers.
