Driving Directions
Drive I-84 east to Exit 64 for Highway 35, White Salmon, and Government Camp.
After exiting, turn left onto Button Bridge Road for White Salmon and drive 1.1 miles, crossing the Hood River Toll Bridge and reaching the junction with Highway 14.
Turn left here for Stevenson and Vancouver. After 1.6 miles, make a right onto 141 Alt for Trout Lake and the Mt. Adams Recreation Area.
Wind up for 2.2 miles to the junction with Highway 141. Turn left here for BZ Corner, Trout Lake, and Glenwood.
Drive 19.2 miles to a Y junction at Trout Lake and go right on the Mt. Adams Rec. Highway for Randle and the Mt. Adams Recreation Area.
After 1.3 miles, keep right at the junction with FR 23 for the South Climb, Bird Creek Meadows, and Sno-Parks (FR 82).
In 0.6 miles, keep right again for Bird Creek Meadows and the Sno-Parks.
In 2.7 miles, the road turns to gravel. Keep right at the junction for Smith Creek Sno-Park and Bird Creek Meadows.
Go 6.4 miles, entering Tract D of the Yakama Reservation, and keep left at a junction for Tract D.
Head up on a narrow, dusty road for 4.1 miles to the pay station ($20/vehicle) for Tract D (See Mirror Lake to your left).
Keep right here for Bird Creek Meadows and Bench Lake.
After 1.1 miles, pass the Bird Creek Meadows Trailhead; continue downhill 0.9 miles and turn left into Hellroaring Meadows Trailhead.
Fees and Regulations
- $20 day-use fee
- In 2023, open July 26th through September 7th (open period may vary from year to year)
- $3.50 toll each way at Hood River Bridge
- A-frame outhouse at trailhead
