Description
Ice Lake is nestled in a beautiful high cirque below the Matterhorn. There are campsites near the creek outlet and also on a narrow peninsula that juts into the lake. The lake is encircled by high ridges on three sides: Craig Mountain to the south, the Matterhorn to the west, and the Hurwal Divide to the north. At the west end of the lake is a swampy meadow. The south side has more wetland and also a rockfall of large granite boulders: this is the best spot to enter deeper water for a swim. The trail to the Matterhorn runs along the north shore of the lake. Brook trout are easily fished from the lake.
