Description
Little Mt. Adams is a brilliant reddish cinder cone that stands out at the east end of the Ridge of Wonders. Its spectacular crater rim seems more artificial than natural from a distance. Views from the summit of Little Mt. Adams extend extensively to the south and east as well as up the Ridge of Wonders to the glaciers, icefalls, and jagged ramparts of Mount Adams. Golden Hellroaring Meadows and Heart Lake can be seen below.
Little Mt. Adams can be reached using the route of the abandoned Island Spring Trail, which can be traced in places by following yellow squares nailed to trees.
Be careful clambering around the rim and crater. Lava rock is jagged and rather unforgiving. The slopes and saddle at Little Mt. Adams host an interesting display of wildflowers in summer.
