Description
The McCully Creek Trail #1812 crosses this high pass and descends to the Tenderfoot Wagon Road Trail #1819. The alpine slopes near the pass are dotted with whitebark pines and there are sweeping views back down the McCully Valley and into Big Sheep Basin. The rugged ridge line running to the east (Wing Ridge) and west (Aneroid Mountain) is composed of dark Columbia River flood basalts of the Grande Ronde period (17.5 to 15.5 million years ago).
Elk regularly use this pass to move from one basin to another. Look for mountain goats and bighorn sheep on the high ridges.
