Description
Monitor Ridge is the summer route for hikers summiting Mount Saint Helens. Though Monitor Ridge is a trail (#216H), it is only a portion of the Mount Saint Helens Hike, so I'm labeling it as a destination. In many places there is no one trail, you just follow any section with tiny scree (the size of sand). There are rock piles to climb, and the trail is gaining at least 1200 feet per mile on average. It eventually meets up with the winter route, and the ridge climbs around 45 degrees the last quarter mile to the summit of Mount Saint Helens. In all, you follow Monitor Ridge about 2.6 miles one way.
