Description
Moraine Lake is a small lake south of the South Sister. The area is very alpine with sparse vegetation and lots of volcanic rock. There are no streams except for a short outlet stream. All stream flow goes under the porous volcanic soil.
There are a number of campsites near the lake. You can get drinking water from the lake. There are some nice camping areas northwest of and above the lake.
Just west of the lake is the south side climbing route up the South Sister. The Moraine Lake area would be a nice place to camp if you wanted to combine that with a summit climb. The climb is little more than a steep hike up loose rock at places - no technical rock or glacier climbing.
