Mother Lode Creek Crossing

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Old sign at the creek crossing (bobcat)
Lovely Mother Lode Creek (bobcat)

Description

The Mother Lode Trail #558 crosses limpid Mother Lode Creek at this location, marked by an ancient Mt. Hood National Forest sign. There is no bridge, but the creek is easily crossed on rocks. This is a quiet, shady lunch spot on a warm summer day. The peace belies the frenzy of late 19th-early 20th century mining that took place in this area, including on the creek itself. The 2011 Mother Lode Fire burned on both sides of the creek here, but much of the creek vegetation remains.

The trail heads up to soon meet the abandoned Geronimo Trail #557. From this junction, the Mother Lode Trail heads down to the Battle Creek Shelter Site, only about half a mile from the creek crossing.
