Description
Mount Melissa is the unofficial name of this 9,128-foot peak on the easternmost of the Wallowas' north-south ridges. Like much of the eastern Wallowas, Mount Melissa is composed of Grande Ronde basalts. It is an easy scramble up from McCully Basin via the McCully-Big Sheep Pass. Alternate routes include via Ferguson Ridge to the north or Wing Ridge to the east.
Views from here extend towards Idaho as well as north and south in Oregon. Look down into McCully Basin and try to spot elk in the meadows. There's a summit register in an ammunition box and mountain goats frequent the vicinity.
