Mount Saint Helens Summit

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View across the crater to Spirit Lake and Mt. Rainier from the true summit (bobcat)

Description

The true summit of Mount Saint Helens lies just west of the Dryer Glacier on the mountain's shattered rim. It is reached most directly by the Dryer Lava Flow and Glacier, but can also be accessed from the Mount Saint Helens Rim at Monitor Ridge. The summit itself gives a better view of the Crater Glacier and the west rim. Take care when negotiating the section of the rim between the summit and the Monitor Ridge rim area: the tread is loose and steep; avoid snow cornices at all cost!
