Description
This pretty 118-acre lake is nestled in a glacial depression in the northwest corner of Mount Rainier National Park. The Wonderland Trail runs along the shores of the lake and the Mowich Lake Trailhead is the beginning point for popular day excursions to places like Spray Falls, Eunice Lake, and the Tolmie Peak Lookout. Crater Creek flows out of the lake, while the crags of Castle Peak and Fay Peak jut above. The old ranger station is just beyond the walk-in campground, which is spread around the former parking circle. The summit of Mount Rainier can be seen from the western shore of the lake.
Fishing is poor at the lake, but small lush meadows on the the lake's southern shore host a variety of colorful blooms in the summer. Pikas live near the campground and crawdads can be seen in the shallows.
