Driving Directions
Drive I-5 north to Exit 127 for Highway 512, Puyallup, and S. Tacoma Way.
After exiting, join Highway 512E and drive 11.6 miles before peeling off to the right for Highway 167N and 410E, Seattler, and Yakima.
After 1.0 miles, exit to the right onto Highway 410E for Sumner and Yakima.
Go 12.2 miles (in Bonney Lake, the expressway becomes a two-way road) and, reaching Buckley, bear right and the immediately right again for Highway 165S and Wilkeson.
Drive 1.7 miles to a T-junction and go left on Highway 165 for Wilkeson and Carbonado.
Go 8.8 miles and bear right at a junction.
Drive another 11.9 miles on mostly gravel road, often washboardy, and reach the fee station for Mt. Rainier National Park.
It’s another 5.0 miles from here to the parking area at Mowich Lake.
Fees and Regulations
- $30 for a 7-day pass (or America the Beautiful Pass)
- No dogs on trails
- Keep on the trail in Spray Park
- Road opens mid-June to mid-July; closes at first substantial snow
Other information
- Walk-in campsite at trailhead (no drinking water); camp only in designated sites
- In summer, the biting flies at Spray Park can be a minor nuisance
- Parking area gets very crowded in the summer
