Hikes starting here

Fees and Regulations

  • For parking near the Multnomah Falls Lodge between late May and early September, a Timed Use Permit ($2 fee) will be required for each personal vehicle between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • For the I-84 parking area, between late May and early September, you will need to purchase reserved tickets from Recreation.gov. Booking early in the morning or later in the afternoon is best for ensuring a spot.

Driving Directions

There are two trailheads:

  • Drive east from Portland on Interstate 84 to Exit 31 near Mile 31. This exit is accessible from I-84 in either direction. Walk under the footbridge to Multnomah Falls Lodge.
  • Alternatively, exit I-84 at the Bridal Veil Exit (28) and drive the Historic Columbia River Highway eastward to the Multnomah Falls Lodge parking area.

Alternatives to Driving

  • Columbia Gorge Express runs buses seven days a week between the Gateway Transit Center (Portland) and Hood River. The bus stops five times daily at Multnomah Falls.


  • The services below run between Memorial Day and Labor Day:
  • Sasquatch Shuttle (starting at Troutdale or Bridal Veil) stops at several Gorge trailheads between the Portland Women's Forum and Horsetail Falls, including Multnomah Falls.
  • The Waterfall Trolley runs between Corbett and Ainsworth, stopping at the key trailheads along the way.
