Driving Directions
Drive I-5 South and take Exit 271 for Woodburn and Silverton (Highway 214).
Turn left onto Highway 214, also called the Newberg Highway. You will see signs for the Silver Falls Tour Route. After 1.1 miles, go straight (tour route signs point right) for Mt. Angel and Silverton, keeping on 214S.
The Newberg Highway becomes the Mt. Hood Highway. Drive 1.4 miles and turn right onto 99E and 214 for Silverton.
Continue on this wide boulevard for 1.1 miles before turning left on 214S for Mt. Angel and Silverton.
You will continue out of Woodburn for 6.8 miles and, after entering Mt. Angel, the road bends left for Silverton and Silver Falls.
From here, proceed 4.1 miles to a four-way stop at C Street in Silverton. Here you have to turn right and then left at the next junction onto one-way Water Street to pass through downtown Silverton.
From the C Street junction, it’s another 13.8 miles before you pull into the North Falls Trailhead parking area on your right. Pay the $5 day-use fee if you don't have a State Parks Pass.
Alternatively, from the east side of Portland, you can take Exit 10 on I-205 and drive south on Oregon 213. Highway 213 heads straight into the old downtown district of Silverton. Turn left on to Highway 214 and drive 14 miles to the North Falls Trailhead on the right.
Other Notes
There are several trail junctions within feet of the trailhead. The new North Rim Trail heads west from the parking area to the North Canyon Trailhead. Just beyond the footbridge, the Upper North Falls Trail branches to the right and circles beneath the footbridge and the highway bridge toward Upper North Falls. Just past the bridges, the Perimeter Trail branches to the right. This trail heads into the little known upper area of Silver Falls State Park.
Back on the main trail, about 100 feet west of the footbridge is another trail junction. From here, the Rim Trail heads up and parallels Highway 214 past the Winter Falls Trailhead to South Falls Lodge. The Canyon Trail drops down to North Falls and the rest of the beautiful waterfalls.
