North Mattieu Lake

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

North Mattieu Lake (Jerry Adams)
Lava flow next to trail (Jerry Adams)

Description

North Mattieu is a small lake two miles south of McKenzie Pass, surrounded by somewhat sparse pine forest. There are lava fields to the southwest.

Camping is in designated campsites only, but there are quite a few around the lake. See the map at the trailhead that shows the locations. This can be somewhat busy on summer weekends.

There is no stream going into or out of the lake. Water flows in and out under the porous lava soil.
