Pacific Crest-Timberline Middle Trail Junction

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Timberline Trail-Pacific Crest Trail Junction sign near Ramona Falls (bobcat)

Description

There are two great, historic, long distance trails on the western slopes of Mount Hood, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Timberline Trail. At times they are two trails, at times they are one.

This point marks the spot where the trails diverge heading north. The Timberline Trail takes a higher route toward Ramona Falls and then around Yocum Ridge to a crossing of the Muddy Fork. The Pacific Crest Trail heads down the Sandy River to a lower crossing of the Muddy Fork that is suitable for horses.

This is one of the more confusing junctions in the area. The trail dropping off the bluff is the combined Timberline and Pacific Crest Trail heading toward Paradise Park and Timberline Lodge. The trail going down to the west is the Pacific Crest Trail headed toward the Ramona Falls Trailhead and Bald Mountain. The trail heading uphill is the combined Timberline Trail going towards Ramona Falls and Yocum Ridge.
