Description

The original Dog Mountain trail was built to service a fire lookout at this location. Today, nothing remains of the lookout other than a worn bit of concrete foundation. The reason for the choice however is clear as the views of the Columbia River and the Oregon side of the Gorge remain unchanged.

Two trails lead upward from here. The Dog Mountain Trail heads straight north into the summit meadows that flower in May. The Dog Mountain Summit Loop Trail heads farther east working it's way to the summit up the timbered east side.
