Fees and Regulations

  • Nothing for the trailhead itself. To enter the refuge, where the hike is, you'll need to buy a one dollar pass or have one of these passes:
    • Federal Duck Stamp
    • Golden Age Passport
    • Golden Access Passport
    • Golden Eagle Passport
    • Washington/Oregon Recreation Pass
    • National Parks Pass with Golden Eagle Hologram
    • America the Beautiful Pass
  • No dogs are allowed on the refuge
  • The refuge closes at night and hours are posted at the site.
  • The nearby railroad tracks are used heavily. Hikers should use the footbridge and stay off the railroad tracks.

Driving Directions

From Portland or Vancouver, drive I-5 north to the Ridgefield exit, #16, recently resigned for Pioneer Street. Turn left and head west on Pioneer about 2 1/2 miles to downtown Ridgefield. Turn right on Main Avenue (yes, it's Main Avenue) and head north about 0.7 miles to the signed refuge parking lot on the left. Note the times posted at the gate.

Other Notes

  • The refuge closes at night and hours are posted at the site. Automatic gates close the road at the specified hour and you may be trapped behind the gate overnight.
