Rock of Ages Arch

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Description

This is a natural rock arch overlooking the Yeon/Nesmith area in the Columbia River Gorge. The arch is a great photo spot as there's room for one to sit within the arch. Take care, however; the drop off is steep and unforgiving on the other side! Star Trek fans may be reminded of The Guardian of Forever.

The only way to get to this location is a spur trail off the primitive Rock of Ages Trail. On a nice day, this can be a challenging diversion for people coming to see Ponytail Falls but yearning for a bit more adventure. It's only about 0.4 miles to the spur trail from Ponytail Falls, but the climb is steep and quite the scramble in places. Plus, this trail is not maintained, and poison oak should be expected. This is also part of a larger loop encompassing Devil's Backbone and the Oneonta Canyon.
