Description
Silcox Hut was built by the WPA and the CCA, with construction finishing in 1939. It was originally the terminus for the Magic Mile chairlift, and also used as a warming hut for skiers and Mount Hood climbers. The structure fell into serious disrepair after the chairlift was relocated in 1962. In 1985, Silcox Hut was added to the National Register of Historic Places. During the late-1980s and early-1990s, the non-profit Friends of Silcox Hut was formed and undertook a major restoration project, returning the structure to glorious condition. Silcox Hut is now run by the operators of Timberline Lodge, providing overnight group accommodations and dining opportunities.
You can walk up (1 mile and 1000' EG) to the hut from Timberline Lodge (See the Mountaineer Trail Loop Hike), or take the Magic Mile ski lift.
