Description
This ford allows you to complete a loop accessing Wildcat Falls if you're also prepared to ford Siouxon Creek near the site of the Siouxon footbridge near Chinook Creek. (The bridge across that ravine has been out for several years.) However, much of the year the crossing is relatively deep, especially near the south bank (although this can change), and requires care. Use poles and unbuckle your pack so you can shed it if you fall; otherwise it might drag you under. Wear solid footwear and don't hesitate to take the ford in your hiking boots - much safer than feeling your way barefoot or in flip-flops. Do NOT cross if you can't see the bottom. In spring and fall, during the rainy season, an average height male may be crossing at crotch to waist depth. In summer, waters may be at mid-calf and, in early fall, it's almost a rock hop. Consider your companions' and your canine's abilities as well. See Tips for Crossing Streams.
To repeat: Do NOT attempt to cross here at times of high, rushing water. Most of the time, the Siouxon is running here at a reasonable pace that won't knock you over.
