Description

Text from Connie Stahlman:

"This small mountain was named after Jim's grandfather [Fred Stahlman] who was the first District Ranger in the Detroit area under the newly formed Dept of Agriculture for the Forest Service 1906-1911. The lookout, now removed, was built in 1946. Several times during his Forest Service years, Jim was a lookout at this station. He was raised in Old Detroit, the site is now under water, and as a teenager helped moving the old town to its present site. His family home is now a coffeehouse/Deli in Detroit."

The views from the lookout site extend from French Creek Ridge to Mount Jefferson up the course of the North Santiam River.
