Tenderfoot Pass

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View to North Fork Imnaha valley from Tenderfoot Pass (bobcat)

Description

Tenderfoot Pass, between the mountain blocks of Petes Point and Dollar Ridge, marks the end of the East Fork Wallowa River Trail #1804. Here it becomes the North Fork Imnaha Trail #1814. Three hundred feet below the pass on its south side, the Polaris Pass Trail splits off to the west. Views from the alpine parklands here are expansive. Looking north, the Bonneville and Aneroid Mountain Ridges frame the East Fork Wallowa valley. Looking south, one can admire the expansive alpine meadows and fells of the North Fork Imnaha headwaters and the Sentinel Ridge. The top of Cusick Mountain peeks up to the southwest and to the east is Mt. Nebo. Snow lingers here late into the summer and the meadows are abloom with alpine wildflowers then. Stay on the trail so as not to damage sensitive habitats.
