Description
Tomlike Mountain is the highest point on the divide between the East and West Forks of Herman Creek, also known as Woolly Horn Ridge. The ridge is exposed for about a mile along its highest points and offers expansive views to the Oregon and Washington Cascades as well as Gorge high points.
According to McArthur and McArthur's Oregon Geographic Names, Woolly Horn Ridge is so named because local hunters once bagged a buck in velvet here. Tomlike was the name of the son of Chinidere, the last chief of the Wasco Indians. Tomlike was also known as Indian George. He lived to be almost 100, and was tragically killed by a train.
